I’m often asked where people can read the stories that come out of my applied science fiction projects.
Well, the latest to be published is from the Creative Futures project with Coventry University and the Defence Science and Technology Lab (UK Ministry of Defence).

The ‘Creative Futures’ anthology is out on 21 October 2025 and my story – Fake – sits alongside others from names you’ll recognise – Adrian Tchaikovsky, Gareth L. Powell, Allen Stroud, Gavin Smith, Kieran Currie Rones, Stewart Hotston, Emma Newman, Tiffani Angus, Adeola Eze, Stark Holborn, and Sophia McDougall.
As for the other applied science fiction stories, you can find them at:
‘Eating Robots‘ from the project with the Bristol Robotics Lab and the European Human Brain Project. This is in the short story collection Eating Robots & Other Stories
‘Zygosity Saves the Day‘ from the Strange Brains, Alien Minds project with the Department of Developmental Neurobiology and the Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London. This is in the short story collection, Biohacked & Begging and Other Stories.
‘A Mother’s Nightmare‘ and ‘Standard Deviations‘ from the King’s College London Digital Psychiatry project: The automated coding of expressed emotion to enhance clinical and epidemiological mental health research in adolescence. These can be found in the short story collection, Extracting Humanity & Other Stories.
‘Long Live the Strawberries of Finsbury Park‘ from the project with Furtherfield and Finsbury Park. This can be found in Extracting Humanity & Other Stories and in the award winning Best of British Science Fiction 2022.
‘Failing Fathers‘, ‘The Crunch‘, ‘Gathering Power‘, and ‘Bits ‘n’ Bacon‘ from Cybersalon’s 22 Ideas About the Future can be found in the anthology of the same name and in Extracting Humanity & Other Stories.
